Troubleshooting Meta Account Connections

  • Updated

Running into trouble connecting your Facebook Page, Instagram profile, or Meta Ads account? Most connection issues come down to a handful of easy-to-fix reasons, and this article walks you through them.

Here's what's covered:

  • General solutions for connection issues across Meta platforms.
  • Specific error messages by channel and what to do about them.
  • What to check if data isn't showing up after you've connected.

Try the general tips first, but if you're still stuck, jump to the section for the channel you're connecting to.

General Troubleshooting Tips

1. Clear your browser cookies and cache.

2. Try connecting via an incognito or private browsing window.

3. Log out of Dash Social, and log back in.

4. Ensure two-factor authentication (2FA) is enabled for your Facebook and Instagram accounts. Visit the Facebook Help Centre to learn how you can set up two-factor authentication (2FA).

5. Check your Facebook Business Integrations and confirm Dash Social is listed, with permissions switched on for each brand.

đź’ˇ Tip: Most connection errors trace back to a permissions gap in Meta Business Suite. If the tips above don't resolve your issue, re-check your Full Access or Partial Access permissions using the steps in Connecting Your Facebook Page or Connecting Your Instagram Account.

Facebook and Instagram Connection Issues

Below are some troubleshooting steps you can try, based on the specific error you’re experiencing.

"We Are Unable to Connect Your Account"

Double-check your permissions and try refreshing your connection as outlined in Connecting Your Facebook Page and Connecting Your Instagram Account. When you re-attempt the connection, make sure to click Edit Settings and check that the account you want to connect is toggled on in the list that appears.

The Connect Button Isn't Working

1. Confirm you have “Full Access” to your Facebook Page, and that your Instagram account is connected to your Facebook Business Page.

2. Check your Facebook Business Integrations, and confirm Dash Social is listed. Click View and Edit to check which permissions are enabled. We require all permissions to be enabled for each connecting brand.

3. If you’re still experiencing issues despite refreshing your platform connections, please contact our support team via support@dashsocial.com or the in-platform chat.

I'm Not Seeing All My Data After Connecting

It may take up to 24 hours for your historical data to populate. If it has been more than 24 hours and your data is still unavailable, please contact our support team via support@dashsocial.com or the in-platform chat.

I Have a Valid Connection, But I'm Not Seeing Facebook or Instagram DMs

Go to your Facebook Page, and click Settings & Privacy → Page Setup → Advanced Messaging. Scroll down to “App Settings”, select Configure and ensure Dash Social is set as the primary receiver for the handover protocol.

My Account Is Greyed Out or Missing From the List

If you’re unable to select an account or it doesn’t appear at all, you don't have the correct permissions to connect it.

To resolve this, confirm your permissions using the steps in Connecting Your Facebook Page and Connecting Your Instagram Account, and confirm your Instagram account is connected to the correct Facebook Business Page.

Meta Ads Connection Issues

Below are some troubleshooting steps you can try, based on the specific error you’re experiencing.

"We Are Unable to Connect Your Account"

Double-check your permissions as outlined in Connecting Your Meta Ads Account.

I Don't See Promoted Metrics or Ad Comments in the Platform

1. Go to Platform Connections.

2. Click Manage or Connection Summary, and confirm the right ad accounts are toggled on.

  • If you connected the account, you'll see a Manage button. Ensure the enabled ad account(s) are the one your team uses to promote posts. Ad accounts that are toggled off will not import data into Dash Social.
  • Select Connection Summary to see who connected the ad account(s). Only this team member can change which ad account(s) are enabled.

Instagram posts boosted in app using a credit card instead of the associated Meta Ads account will not pull into Dash Social due to Meta API limitations. To ensure your promoted posts pull into Dash please ensure you promote posts in connection with your Meta Ads account.

I Don't Know Which Ad Account I Need to Connect

Confirm with your team the name and ID of the ad account used to run ads and promoted posts. It typically looks like: “Account Name (0123456789)”.

If an account isn’t listed, you likely don't have access to it in Meta Business Suite. Ask an ad account admin to grant you access within your Meta Ad account settings. To learn more, read Meta’s guide on ad account permission roles in Meta Ads Manager.
